  1. How do I disinfect my hands 100% effectively?

Here are some simple instructions to cleaning your hands:

    step 1
    Palm to palm.
    step 2
Right palm over back of left hand and left palm over back of right hand.
    step 3
Palm to palm with bent spread out fingers.
    step 4
Outer parts of fingers on the opposite palm, with fingers bent.
    step 5
Circular rubbing of the left thumb in closed right hand and vice versa.
    step 6
Circular rubbing backwards and forwards with closed right hand fingertips in left palm, and vice versa.
  2. When do I use Citroxx BioTM?

You should clean/decontaminate your hands in the following circumstances:

    • Staff:
      Before and after patient contact.
      Before handling food.
After any risk of potential contamination.
After using the toilet or helping a patient to the toilet.
    • Patients:
      Before eating.
      After using the toilet.
    • Visitors:
Before entering or leaving a ward or department.
      After using the toilet.
      Before handling food.
  3. Does Citroxx BioTM kill MRSA?

Citroxx BioTM is effective against a broad range of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, including Staph. aureus (hence MRSA) as well as E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus hirae. It is also effective against a wide range of viruses and fungi.

  4. Can pathogens develop resistance to Citroxx BioTM?

Pathogen resistance cannot develop against the Citroxx BioTM 'Bioflavonoid Complex' because of the way it acts on microbes. When exposed to Citroxx BioTM, microbes experience membrane changes and damage due to penetration of the cell membrane, and subsequent death.

  5. When should I not use it?

Citroxx BioTM and all other waterless decontaminants do not remove dirt or soiling from your hands. When your hands are visibly dirty or soiled it is important you first wash your hands with soap and hot water.

  6. How many times can I use it before I have to wash my hands?

The need to hand wash is not decided by how many times you have used Citroxx BioTM but the nature of the tasks since your last hand wash. If your hands are visibly soiled you must wash your hands.

Citroxx BioTM contains a gelling agent and emollients to make it as acceptable to the user as possible. You may find after a number of applications you feel a build up of gel and emollients on your skin. At this point we would recommend a hand wash. When you begin to feel this build up varies from person to person as everyone's skin is different. Whether you use gloves and the time between applications will also have an effect.

  7. Will Citroxx BioTM damage my hands?

The active biocidal ingredient in Citroxx BioTM is 'Bioflavonoid Complex' which is a totally natural product and has been proven to be hypoallergenic. Citroxx BioTM Hand Gel and Hand Spray also contain 30% isopropyl alcohol (to ensure efficient evaporation on application) which may occasionally cause some drying of the natural oils of the skin. However, tests have shown that the incidence of skin irritation with Citroxx BioTM is negligible compared to that of the standard 60-70% alcohol handrubs.

There are added emollient ingredients in the Citroxx BioTM formulation (including Aloe Vera) to moisturise the skin. As a healthcare worker you are asked to wash your hands as well as decontaminate with Citroxx BioTM so we would recommend you always use a moisturising product to replenish the skins moisture at the end of your shift.

  8. Is CitroxxTM a fire hazard?

CitroxxTM Hand Care products contain 30% isopropyl alcohol and has been independently tested to demonstrate that it is not combustible. Therefore, it does not constitute a fire hazard.
